FRM or PRM

Was gonna post this on FRM boards, but they are pretty quiet.

Anyone have an opinion on which to take? Apparently, i could do PRM parts 3 and 4, then hopefully finish the CFA and use the CFA to count for parts 1 and 2. Has anyone done the PRM? Is it worth it? Or is FRM a better designation to have?

Thanks

i recently read the introduction of a book on risk measurement/analysis and the author (Carol Alexander) was clear the PRM is the standard and that is more encompassing and advanced than the FRM... though she did also hint that the PRM also was a bit of a whitewash as the whole thing could be finished studying part-time in one year,

FRM (Disclaimer: I am a Certified FRM).

I work in Corporate Treasury and deal with many Banks (Both relationship/treasury/Risk guys and senior management), Risk Consultancies and other Financial market participants. At least in India, only going by the reputation/popularity/market recognition, FRM is waayyyy ahead of any other designation in Risk.

FRM is easily recognized by people in finance who are not directly working in Risk. PRM/anything else will not be recognized even by Risk practitioners, forget anyone else.

Also, there is no annual fees for either of the certifications now since GARP has done away with their annual membership fees and hence I see more and more people opting for FRM than before going forward.

Wish you good luck for whatever decision you take. Choose wisely.

(Disclaimer: regarding my reference above to Carol Alexander and her saying the PRM is easily more comprehensive then FRM... she is the Chair of Financial Risk Management, ICMA Centre, and has clearly heard of PRM)

She is also the Chair of the Board of PRM IA and has clear conflict of interest. PRM has funded her center at her university!

oh..., i didn't know that, good point. though as i said before she does berate PRM also for being not rigorous enough!

I am sorry. They did not abolish it. However, it is no longer a requirement to pay the fees to use the letters after your name.
