Ethics - Schweser Volume 1 - Page 53

Example 9 - so one can take a non-conflicting paid position WITHOUT notifying employer, as long as it does not preclude or interfere with their expected job functions?

Yes, after re-reading Ethics for the 3rd time this year alone, it seems like additional compensation does not apply to outside or additional employment. I think it is meant to cover a situation where you manage client portfolios and they would like to offer you a bonus or other incentive. And, there is an example in the CFA book that kinda touches on this.

I don’t have Schweser, so can’t help you out dude.

I think it’s broken out in two different areas:
Standard IV(A) is Loyalty. You can’t deprive your employer of the advantage of your skills. So, they charge for it and you’re giving it away. That could be considered competing. So, get permission.
Standarf IV(B) is Additional Compensation. Anything that may reasonably create a conflict of interest is ok as long as you have written permission from everyone involved.
