Ethics - Using materials from old firm

If you directly use model/marketing docs from old firm, can you get permission to use them from old firm? Or do you need to completely recreate it from memory? For ex. if you made a model on your own at a firm, can you get permission to take the model and does it need to be specifically written? Thanks.

If no permission is granted, you must recreate it from memory because the docs are now your old firm's assets?
