Hey,
I was from a non-finance background as well, economics as a matter of fact, which is only 10% of the exam. I also had an accounting minor to fall back on so I found FRA fairly easy.
What you should do is;
1) Buy Elan's Ultimate Prep package, 40% discount for students, comes out to 299 dollars US. Superior to the crap that Stalla and Schweser come up with.
2) Do not pursue your CFA if you get discouraged easily, passing all three levels will be difficult, but if you put in the time you will have a good chance of doing so. What I did was read Elan Guides Study notes, read CFA end of chapter summaries, attempt practice problems from Elan and then do End of CHapter questions in the material, if I did not understand something I would look for it in the curriculum. Don't try to read the curriculum itself, its very dry and it will be difficult to retain concepts without working them out.
3) Try to get through a reading everyday, that way you will be done in 74 days, which is roughly 2.5 months, leave another month for review, and take practice exams and you should be fine. The material is fairly basic, the people that find it very challenging are typically those that either don't prepare enough or are just not cut out to pass all three levels.
Good luck. |
