Annual or Semi-annual ? guidelines, periods, general, default, question

Friends,
If the question doesn't mentioned about periods as annual / semi-annual for PV calculation, Should we assume by default as Semi-annual? Is there any general guidelines ?

For most bonds, I would say semi-annual is the convention. For other TVM questions, it would have to be specified....

If it doesn't say it in the question I would assume semi-annual. Almost all corporates, treasuries, and munis are semi annual pay. Calculate Zero Coups as semi-annual as well.
