Personally, I found it to be a waste of money. I was Band 9 in 2010. I had studied pretty hard and had taken the Schweser weekly course (which I found minimally helpful- not to the degree that it was for Lvl 1).
Naturally I was freaking out this year not wanting to fail again this year and did everything I thought was within reason. Read old Schweser, new schweser, sections of CFAI text, EOC, bought Schweser Q-Bank, etc. etc. etc. Then I purchased the 3 day course out of pure panic after receiving about 4 different e-mails about it. Went to the class and it just seemed to confuse me more than help. Teacher was talking about his way of looking at problems, only looking at some of the top level concepts with 1 or 2 examples and there's just such a vast amount of material, couldn't really cram it all in. We spent HOURS on Time Series Analysis and then the last 45 minutes of the 3 days on Derivatives AND Portfolio Management.
The way that I look at it, if you were Band 9, you know your stuff. They may have asked questions that you weren't prepared for. Keep at it. Read the texts over with CFAI text for the harder areas (really, really helped me with understanding swaps) and crush a lot of problems. Just keep chugging. You don't need to give Schweser an extra $700 or whatever. You already know all of the concepts they would skim over. Just practice.
Passed this year, btw. |
