I did at my old job, it was $5K at a big bank. When I worked in PE there was no referral bonus. Am all for referral bonuses -- at least modest ones -- as it's a form of compensation that can be highly aligned with the firm's goals of getting a pool of high-quality candidates

That's right. Makes you all the more angry when the person you referred take a better offer somewhere else.

Oh yeah and the reason is obvious: a recruitment firm can take up to 30% of the stated contract amount. I use agencies a lot and hate having to pay them but this is life. For a 100k hire it is either 30k to the recruitment agent or 4k to you.
