Ethics Independence Question

Hey Guys
could somebody explain this question to me.
“John Doe CFA has been invited to join a group of analysts in touring the riverboats of river casino corp. for the four, river casino has arrange chartered flights from casino to casino since commercial flight schedules are inconvenient and not [practical for the groups time schedule. River casino has also arranged to pay the hotel bill for the three nights of the tour. The trip is purely business. According to CFA Institute standards of profession conduct, smith
a) may accept the arrangement as they are.
b) may accept the flight but must pay his own hotel bill.
c) must offer to pay for his share of the airfare and his own hotel bill.
My initial answer was b) which is consistent with what the CFAI says. However I think I realised why this is A. Is it because there is no issue of independency here. I mean John isn’t actually an analyst and writing a report on the company.
Could somebody clear this up. thanks. by the way the question was changed to avoid copyright issues.

With these questons, you have to be careful with the wording.
There is no must pay for own, it is simply recommended for how I understand it. Careful with extragavant trips, etc, however them paying for your flight and hotel is allowed, but it is recommended that you pay for your own items, but since answer B says “Must pay for his own hotel bill” you can say thats not true, because there is no must..
Hope this helps
