Quick Q on Local Society maintain, everyone, member, should, status

I should know this but…
In order to maintain Charterholder status, does one need to be a member of a local society & CFAI or simply the CFAI?

I used to think it was both, but another thread on here recently pointed out that it is actually only CFAI to maintain. Both are required to receive your charter though.

Interesting, I remember hearing that you had to be in both, but it does seem that people are getting away with just paying CFAI.
I think that, on a day-to-day basis, NYSSA provides quite a bit more value to me than CFAI (other than the fact that I have to pay to use the letters in the first place). I don’t mind being a NYSSA member.
