I am taking the June 2011 CFA 1 exam and was wondering where most of you, who like me are taking the june exam, are with regards to studying?

If you're anywhere, you're ahead of schedule. I doubt many other people have already started.

Don't use me as a judge at all (as my work schedule and hence free time is most likely to change shortly) but I've already logged 80 hours...I figure what the hell, since I have the time now it doesn't hurt getting some major topics out of the way.

To make a short story long...

I've finished books one and two, and have just started number three. I've also watched the Schweser videos for ethics and econ, and have done a crap load of Qbank tests for those sections.

The quant section has been tough going for me. My plan for this section is now that I've seen all the material once, and worked through the EoC questions, I'm going to try to do qbank quizzes on this material each week until the exam to try to make internalizing it as painless as possible.

My goal is to get through at least 3.5 of the 6 books by the end of the year (four if possible) and have a fairly decent handle on the quant section. For the econ and ethics stuff I'm scoring 75%+ on longer qbank tests (80 questions) and have done a ton of them.

I don't have a whole lot of free time given my job, so I have to do a little bit each day because I won't have the luxury of putting in loads of hours per day at the end.

For reference, I'm targeting 12 hours a week (two hours a day, six days a week). I think I can hit that target consistently until June. I'll miss it some weeks, but will also be studying a bit more intensely closer to June.

Sounds like you've got a good approach...I'm using Elan's ultimate prep, so far i've done all the videos, study notes and EOC summaries and questions for Equity and FI (I also dabbled a bit in derivatives and ethics). My plan is to be 'feeling good' on Equity/FI/AI/Derivatives and Econ before the end of the yr. If i continue at this rate I'll probably start ethics or FRA before yr's end.

I also spent some time dicking around with the BA calculator app on my iphone so i'm not scrambling to learn it during crunch time.

Sounds like you've got a good study plan as well.

I think the key will be doing as many practice questions as possible. That's where you figure out if you really know the material.
