what r u expecting the pass rates to be...level 2 pass rates last year were around 40-50 % if i m not wrong...i also heard this year's paper was tougher as compared to last year...
作者: chaojimali    时间: 2011-7-11 18:56

This year was a lot easier than last. Still not sure if I passed though.

^ Not sure it is prudent to compare year-on-year exams, especially if one took the most recent exam with much more preparation than the one taken peior to the last one.

You're assuming one is more prepared the second time around. Unfortunately, this was not the case for me. My workload increased substantially the second time around so I had much less time to prepare.

That being said, this last exam was less riddle-like in format. L2 will never be easy, but this exam wasn't written with quite the level of difficulty as last years'.

lol its great when people say "this year was easier" ... you've taken the exam before so basically knew what to expect test day and then had ~10 add'l months to re-study the same material. no wonder you thought it was easier this time. i doubt anyone can provide an unbiased opinion on the difficulty of this yr vs. last.

I disagree - if someone were to take the exam 06/05/2009, then black out so hard from grain alcohol that they forgot (basically erased) the last 6 months of their lives, EXCEPT the overall difficulty of the exam as one horrific last memory, then restudied with the exact same study pattern and sat for the exam 06/05/2010, and was able to exactly contrast the difficulty for an average candidate - that person would be qualified to give an unbiased opinion on the exam difficulty YOY.

Sounds great in theory, but as you put it yourself by saying "...would be qualified ..." such a person does not exist (thankfully, as its mere existence would be quite miserable and disturbing), so I guess mb389 is indeed right in saying that it is difficult to give an unbiased opinion since your experiences / memories / deeper understandings (hopefully) of the material make such an "experiment" (to retake the test) automatically a biased one.

The only one to give an unbiased opinion is CFAI as they have all the statistics to do so.

You guys can always look at the retakers last year (someone who took it 08 & retook in 09). See if they thought it was "easier".

It's pretty easy to search for. As I recall, most of them thought it was more difficult in 2009.

Just my opinion. If you don't believe me, then that's fine. It's not really worth arguing about.

EDIT: 49%

... if retakers are not a good source then who is? Retakers are the ones that have taken both the tests. How would first timer judge which one was harder when they'd taken only one test. )

I think the point has been made that no-one can strongly contrast the two, although I'd agree with what many of the retakers have said that they're in the best position to judge the difficulty (but there are some drawbacks to their analysis as well).

I'm a retaker and the 2010 exam was definately easier with twice as much study.

Pass rate guess is around 40%.

If you consider the three groups who wrote the exam:

A) People who failed Level II in June '09 - 59% - High
B) People who passed Level I in June '09 - 46% - High
C) People who passed Level I in Dec '09 - 32% - low

Group A has the best chance of passing, followed by Group B & Group C respectively. So, just being excessively crude and eyeballing a number using just this info, I'd say the pass rate will be around 47%.

43% is my guess.

As a 9-band retaker, I agree with others who say this year was easier than last, and also that there were less "tricks" thrown in. That said, CFAI can still adjust the minimum passing score wherever they want to achieve whatever pass rate they want. I would imagine they're aiming for Level 2 pass rates in the low 40s. But we'll see...

I disagree as a member of group C (and someone who feels confident they passed, although we'll see in ~3 weeks) - I think we'd be better off than B because the material is fresher. This depends on the person's study style though, if they're very slow - they'd be better off in B - if they're like me where they operate better under pressure and time constraints, they're better off in C. The same is true for B, those that prefer/learn better with slower studying speeds to digest everything and don't get burnt out are better off in June, those that like a more compact and heavier study period of say 4 months would benefit from passing in December - either way, I don't think you can argue those that took the exam in December had the foundation material fresher.

This is my third time taking Level 2. I thought it was easier than '09 or '08, more straight-forward vs. past years.

these guesses dont really have any basis. the cfai can curve this test to absolutely any distribution they want -- the difficulty doesn't matter, the cfai can make the pass rate 25% or 55% if they feel like it, and we've seen them do stuff like that in the past with the pass rate swinging 10%+ y-o-y w/o significant variance in the difficulty in the exam.
