Re-taker here. I've been using CFAI only but am quickly losing steam. Just finished book 2. 4 to go.
Does anyone have copies of both Schweser 2010 and 2011 Level II books? Is there that much of a difference? I used Schweser last year.
I just hate spending $360 for another set of books.
you have a lot of time... do not think you have lost steam, and give in to the temptation of schweser, now. Go thro' the material one time from the books, before you switch... you will be better off for that effort.

CPK,
Thanks, but I think what will end up happening is I will kill myself doing 15-20 pages a day over the next 4-5 months, then review the material once and have to start taking practice tests.
I think by using Schweser I can get through my first run through by early March, then go fully through the material at least twice. I learned that keeping everything fresh in your head multiple times helps me remember better than going deep into each subject over 6 months and then quickly reviewing them once before the practice tests.
I ordered the books.
p.s. I still laugh about that one guy's post: "Don't WTF CPK"作者: onelife1 时间: 2011-7-11 19:09
Pete - Go with the CFAI this time around. I did some readings in FRA CFAI texts, and there is a world of difference form Schweser. It all starts to make sense using the texts.
I'm a retaker too!
I did the long read thro' CFA books for the 2010 Test - as a retaker. The material does stick together better.
For the revision part - make your handwritten notes. They do much better - fast review while on the bus/train, reading elsewhere.
The process of writing stuff out (not typing it out) helps a lot with retention as well.

Does anyone have thoughts on whether its better to merely read everything from CFAI or go through Schweser taking notes and spending more time/focusing on the material?
I have read 4 out of 6 books so far and I find myself understanding much better the material compared to Schweser the first time around.
Of course I didn't take notes on what I read. I hate doing that. After I'm done reading, time to bombard myself with questions and re-addressing weak areas.
I'm doing the combo: CFAI for like 14 our of 18 sections or whatever it works out to be. I am unfortunately retaking as level 10 fail but am not going to waste time going through CFAI for Quant which Schweser does a fine job of covering. Making sure to cover FRA, Ethics, Equities in CFAI.
PPt, you started way too early killah, you shouldve started rocking it out in March sticking strictly with Schweser
