Anyone else find that the q-bank questions were riddled with errors?
The further I got along in the questions the more I was disappointed. Tons aren't covered by the errata. It takes a long time to recognize that you aren't doing the problem wrong and that their answer is instead.
Ya their crap was put together by a child. I got really upset and started marking all the errors. The BOOKS are full of them also. Obvious errors from using spell check. What a joke.
If the price was not so low id really be upset. I still found them useful.
i'm using them too..........it will be very helpful if you start a post of all the mistakes you found in the Q-Bank and the more people read through them they can add the mistakes they found to the post....in this way we can all help each other.
hi,
can you please tell me how to access the errata section in the dashboard because i cant seem to be able to find it............thank u in advance作者: ramdabom 时间: 2011-7-11 20:03
It's in the extras section in my products.
For me, I'm glad I went with them. Their material is much more clearer than schweser and much cheaper. I'm doing quite well on the practice exams and feel ready for tomorrow.

some of their readings in the study guides are very incomplete as well. But yea, I guess you get what you pay for. For the most part they are good.
There are definitely mistakes in Elan. But i believe these mistakes have in a way helped me understand things more deeply. Let say, if it were not for these mistakes, i'd not have known the alternate future annuity formula to calculate reinvestment income, that is given in the footnotes of CFAI curriculum. I remember i wasted so much of my time on that example trying to match the answers with both the methods, only to find out later that bond in that question was not priced correctly. And then there was this mistake in after tax cash flow example in AI. Ahh but nevermind.. I'm glad i switched to Elan Guides!
I think they were very good actually. They make the material much easier to understand than Kaplan from what I've seen of theirs.
Even the CFA books have mistakes in them which is pretty disappointing! I still don't know whether i'll use average or ending inventory values to calculate ratios. The curriculum says one thing and then does the other in the questions.
Guess we'll know more tomorrow.
I used the CFAI books as my primary resource but I also read through the Elan Guides. There were a number of mistakes in the material and I felt some important parts were not inlcuded in their guides but they did a much better job of explaining topics and problems. The CFAI text would always use problems that were the ideal situation where the Elan guides did a better job of showing examples of problems you would encounter on the exam.
I think there practice exams were good preparation for the actual test except for their ethics questions which are much easier than the actual test.
+1 for Elan. If you can get past the occasional typo their mocks and practice questions are both triple-A grade. The material itself is a little condensed and does skip a few qualitative aspects but overall you can expect it to cover up to 95% of everything you'll need to know. IMO, the only thing Schweser has going for it is the Kaplan name. Without that people would realize they're getting ripped off.
