Hello all,

I just received the CFAI text books. There is a lost of material to read. I need your advice on what is your strategy to absorb so much material? On exams, does CFAI test you on specifics or major concepts? Also, where I can learn about test taking techniques?

Thank you in advance.

For L1, a broad set of skills/topics are covered, but not in as
much depth as L2. Having taken neither, that probably doesn't help you
Much. Ethics, FSA, and Equity/FIncome are huge. Know those, and
know how to work out problems forwards and backwards. The L1
Test really tests your ability to understand the material rather than
just memorize formulas. Best tip, take an online CFAI practice test
as soon as they become available. The way the questions are
presented is very different than most other tests. Once you see
CFAI is looking for on the practice tests, studying will be much easier
and more efficient. Good luck.

Buy either schweser or stalla if you can afford - nice shortcut for L1

I used Stalla and was pretty satisfied with it

schweser's (or equivalent) L1 online classes is sure short cut to digesting few thousands of CFA material. Their Q-bank was a good way to test my retention (try to tackle every problem and review the wrong ones in the last month).

I definitely recommend Qbank and pratice exams from schweser

Study FRA from the CFAI textbooks.... i know its huge...but if you are not from accounting background

For other subjects Schweser should be fine....
Try finishing by 1st week of November and revise and take practice exams...

Also, you can go through the Qbank on days you dont feel like studying....so would provide you with good practice in the mean time....

My advice is to first focus on core concepts. If you have spare time after mastering the core concepts, then spend time on the trivia stuff. There are 2 reasons for this.
1) With 240 Questions, you can miss a lot of questions and still pass
2) The core concepts will carry on to the next levels, the trivia stuff won't
