Does anyone have any views on which is best etc?
Personally speaking I have only ever used Kaplan and I can nit pick about stuff I don't/didn't like but having got this far with them I'm not inclined to be too critical. That said, if the result in August isn't the result I want then I'd be interested in looking at other options - particularly given that having done about 80% of the questions from the Q bank and all of the exams, it might be helpful to know what the other optins are like from that perspective.

I read through the CFAI stuff as well, but to be honest, it is not the most tightly written material on the planet. I think you should read the CFAI stuff just to know what providers like Kaplan and Stalla are skipping. I just wondered what the Stalla Q bank is like and the practice exams too.作者: badonkus 时间: 2011-7-27 07:06

I'm mystified when I see comments that imply that a test provider has left out testable material. I used Schweser for 3 levels, and can honestly say that not a single question struck me as something I wasn't taught in the Schweser curriculum. I'm not saying I *retained* everything and never had to guess at a question, but that's my fault not Schweser's.
That said, I would be tempted to try Stalla next time, just because I made it through so much of Schweser's QBank. Also Stalla's policy for retakers who were with Stalla the first time is superior to Schweser's discount.作者: Swanand 时间: 2011-7-27 07:11

L2 last year had one question I know with 100% certainty that Schweser called a formula something different than what cfai called it, and Schweser kids all missed it if they hadn't seem it in cfai text.
You're kidding yourself if you think Schweser can condense every possible point of the cfai text. Do they probably do 90-95%? Absolutely. Have there been questions on that 5-10%? absolutely.

I'm glad you said that jcole21 because I too know with 100% certainty that there was a question that the Kaplan material didn't cover last year. The reason I know is because it was a formula that I had retained from doing the FRM exam in the November. I came back and looked at my FRM notes to find it but it wasn't covered in Kaplan's CFA notes. Hey ho. Not a big deal but let us no pretend that a quart can be fitted into a pint pot eh? We are all trying to get the greatest mileage with the least amount of effort - Kaplan/Stalla and everyone else.作者: kickthatcfa 时间: 2011-7-27 07:27
I know the formula you are talking about it was covered in Schweser, for about 10 seconds. I had it written in my formula sheet, Schweser said, "There is a very remote chance this will show" I blew it off so I had to guess a 50% 50% on that question.
Personally I think my biggest mistake for Level 3 was listening to people on this board dis Schweser.
I got through Level I 12/09, 100% Schweser never opened the shrink wrap on my books, Level II 6/2010, Schweser all the way and I used CFAI for the EOC's only and Level III I only used the Schweser Practice Exams no Q bank and no books. I think it was a huge mistake, I'm a marginal pass fail right now. Schweser does a good job of stressing the things that will most likely show up and they don't get lost in the weeds like the CFAI books do. I know I waisted allot of time on stuff I probably should not have.
If I fail I'm getting the qbank for L 3, for Level I & II there were allot of little details that the q bank helped me hammer home and I think that was lacking in my studies this time. The q bank also makes you so fast at some of the calculations it gives you allot of time to spend on other areas.作者: RMontgomery 时间: 2011-7-27 07:37

I bet that would cut into providers earnings bit time! I also would pay up for cfa Q-bank instead...作者: svgleeson 时间: 2011-7-27 07:43

I pretty much agree. I used the almighty CFAI text this time. I think I would have been better off thoroughly reviewing schweser twice. Too much info that was all over the place. I even like the simpler formula notation that schweser uses. Hopefully, there is no next time, but if there is, I may revert back to schweser作者: mp3bu 时间: 2011-7-27 07:48

Totally agree.
A complete story: CFAI material.
Summarized version: Whatever company's material.
Plus, I would guess actual pass exams would be more practical than Q-bank and/or practice exams.
