I am done with Economics, Derivatives, and Alternative investments. Could somebody please comment on the pace of my studying? I plan to sit for the December 2011 exam.作者: fishmarket 时间: 2011-8-15 03:47
Your order of preference for topics is beyond my understanding. Why would you choose to study least weighted(important) topic first? I would say get on FSA as soon as you can if you are comfortable with Quants and stats. Otherwise, the very first topic you should focus at this point of time is Quants. Then you can move on in this order: Equity, bonds, corp finance, etc. You can't mess with big guns!作者: kingstongal 时间: 2011-8-15 03:56
Thanks for replying.. I started with derivatives because it was the thinnest book out of them all. I moved onto economics after that as I understand it intuitively.
I was planning to study Ethics and Quants next. Then reviewing in the order you suggested.作者: lunarfollies 时间: 2011-8-15 04:05
Just done with Ethics and Quant - moving onto Econ, FRA, Equity, Corporate Finance in that order作者: MarginofSafety 时间: 2011-8-15 04:13
finished Ethics, Quant, Economics and halfway through FRA
Looking to finish FRA in a week or so. I am following the recommended plan and should have about 2 months for review作者: WarrenB1 时间: 2011-8-15 04:22

I agree with Sgupta. There is an important point to know about this exam is that as you go through the curriculum, your brain get tired. So it's better to start with big topics and master them. If I had to set an order, I'll say Ethics as early as possible (even if many suggest to read it at the end) FRA, Quants, FI, Equity, Corp fin, Deriv, PM, AI, Econ作者: dirk01 时间: 2011-8-15 05:06
I started with economics and am Still in economics. This thing is like rocket science for me. I hope the other readings would be easier.
I find writing a notes and drawing charts helpful.作者: zephyranalyst 时间: 2011-8-15 05:15

Don't waste too much time there and move on. I hate Econ, all these charts were just chinese to me. I don't know how many times I complained here abt it. On mock exams I used to score randomly good or bad, with no clear trend. On exam day, i found the AM session sooo easy, but the PM session just killed me. I was sure I'll score around 50% in Econ, but somehow, i think I just killed the morning session since I managed to get over 70% in Econ, good surprise.
So don't waste too much time there, move on and come back at the end. Focus on big beasts like FRA, Quants, FI or equity作者: lucasg85 时间: 2011-8-15 05:23

I am also on FRA, halfway through its taking me a bit more time than anticipated. (probably because Its my weakness, least exciting)
I felt Ethics was indepth but not too bad, Economics I found the quickest so far, Quant was a bit of work and I will need to revisit it but thats ok.
FRA is just dragging! just finished ratios and DuPont ROE decomposition today.
I have found my pace right up to recently to be quite good, spending about 2 hours on CFA everyday and about double on the weekends for the past 3 - 4 months but i must say i have finally hit a wall.
My motivation just dropped in the last week. what to do? perhaps take a few days off.
Once i get past FRA I feel I will enjoy the rest of the material moreso, Equity, FI, Alt, PM perhaps with the exception of corp finance. anyone done these? which did they find the most challenging?作者: jcfa2011 时间: 2011-8-15 05:49
i started about 1 month ago and have glances at everything except ethics... its all an undergrad review which makes it quite boring.....
the difference for me is that I have seen it all but I am far from ready to attack this on an exam.. but I am using a lot more skimming作者: canadiananalyst 时间: 2011-8-15 05:58
first post here. I'm finishing ethics and quant today after 2 months. I need to step it up. Havent changed my lifestyle at all, so sometimes a week goes by that I dont open the book. 5 books left, 4 months to go. Any suggestions?作者: cjs238 时间: 2011-8-15 06:07
Start doing questions, even if you haven't read the material, especially the calculation questions. It will be an incentive to study and it will not only test your knowledge and give you facts, but the solutions will also encourage a problem-solving mindset. And who knows, they might even ask a similar question on the exam.
I would get through the readings as quickly as possible and go right to any questions.
Learn by doing questions because that's all you'll be doing on the exam...questions...not regurgitating material from memory.

finished wid quants so far...bt still need a review on it...will start wid corporate finance next..作者: badonkus 时间: 2011-8-15 06:24
I actually think Goodwill's plan is not that bad. Start with the easy things, then focus on the main topics. Better to have the main topics fresh comes exam day than the easy ones.
Done with ethics, quant, econ...moving into FRA
Good luck everyone作者: ap0258 时间: 2011-8-15 06:33
Wow.. u guys are a lot ahead. Even though i got my books one month ago, actually 40 days ago, i am just starting now. First chapter of first books ethics, after reading for half an hour i feel tried and came here to check out you guys..Hope i will do better on next days...作者: mkytz15 时间: 2011-8-15 06:42
Done with quants, econ and FRA and had a quick read through ethics at the very beginning.
So far the material is not so bad (I am using Elan) it is actuallt pretty easy mostly review. However I have finally struggled on a couple of chapters FRA Income taxes and IFRS/US GAAP differences are the 2 chapters out of 43 so far that i have had less than 70% in EOC questions (59% and 68%). ALl the other chapters I usually get over 85%. I definitely flagged these 2 for further intensive review in my final weeks oof review. I also realize that as im moving forward old material seems far and tough to remember but I m hoping that because I had no problem understanding it when I do my final review and the practice exams and questions it will be fine.
