My passport is expired and the CFA Institute site will not let me proceed with registration.

There's a way around it. Skip filling out the passport information. Fill out the rest of the exam registration information. Go to the last step where you pick your test center. When you click continue, a box will come up saying your password is expired. Ignore it by clicking ok and click continue again. You'll be able to pay.
Hope this helps everyone else encountering the issue. Just be sure to get a new valid passport before the exam. :-)
