Don’t know what to think about the below scores…. received a band 10. Using the 80/60/40 method for scoring these I had exactly 70%. Is it worth spending the $100 to check it out? Is anyone aware of a change from fail to pass when doing this?
Arrr… the frustration!

That is a good point, I know I erased 3 or 4 on the bubble sheet. From looking at my score I must have been only one or two marks away from passing. Could a manual review be what pushes this over the top?
I’ve seen scores this morning that have bene pass with a worse breakdown than the two abov.e作者: ohai 时间: 2013-8-17 11:33
You guys looked to score higher than me, I don’t know why I would pass and you wouldn’t with these scores.

Deciding the same myself…fail band 10. I’d say it’s worth it: this is a TON of time studying, emotional frusteration, etc…. There is very little downside for significant upside. Granted the probability of upside is slim, but possible. Kinda like a deep out of the money call?
I don’t mean to be the bearer of bad news, but the urban legend of 80/60/40 is pretty misleading. If you averaged 71/51/31, then any of the scores posted could have been a fail. The breakdown doesn’t provide any information as to what your actual score might have been - strictly a qualitative statement.
If it was me, I’d save the dough.
Did you pass or fail?
Using almost a worst case scenario 71/51/31 the score I come up with is 67.2% Must have been a high MPS this year.
i’ve never failed a CFA exam (currently awaiting L3 results) but here’s my 2 cents -
if (and only if) you got a Band 10, and you really think it’s gonna eat you up, $100 is nothing in the long run - just do it. you have virtually no shot of them changing it but if it makes you sleep better at night it’s probably worth it.
Guess I must got lucky, you guys got similar if not better looking scores than me, and I passed.
This is brought up every year and cannot remember a time where it has panned out in the candidates favor. CFAI is so diligent on the grading that they do not make errors when grading. They check them over and over again. It sucks failing in band 10 but suck it up and get it done next year. Your results will not change with retabulation.

5 are above 70% and only one below 50….
i went online but couldn’t find the retabulation form that we have to fill and submit.
I am really tempted by the retab option, based mostly on technical reasons not challenges to the question. I did alot of heavy erasing on about 12 questions (I counted) and despite using two different brands of earsers, could NOT get a totally clean erase.
I simply do not know how sensitive the machines are; $100 bucks is not that expensive and I would get closure that it was a fair result.
I didn’t get Band 10, but felt I was pretty close at Band 9. The scores above look better than mine.
What’s a $100 mean to you I guess? I will probably order the retab just for the closure.

We have divided the full group of failed candidates into ten approximately equal score bands. Your score band below shows how your overall score on the exam compares with all other failed candidates.
For example, if your reported score band is 1, you scored in approximately the bottom 10% of failed candidates. If your reported score band is 2, your score was within the next band width ranging from approximately the bottom 11% to 20% of failed candidates. If your score band is reported as 10, you scored in the top 10% of all failed candidates.

One thing on the retab, the form claims it iwll not change your answer to a specific question. Even if it was a machine error? Has anyone ever successfully had a retab done? Will they fix machine errors ?
i was in the same boat last year, as you guys are today.. band 10…
i thought of getting it retabulated.. but i dont think it is worth it…. if it makes u sleep properly at night.. thn go for it.. otherwise not worth it…
I’ve never heard a story where a fail was changed to pass. Those interval score really doesn’t tell much as 70+ can be 71 or 100. You could’ve barely scored above 70 and ridiculously low on <50 sections, which will still net a fail.
Some of those band 10 though, I really think you could’ve passed if you scored well above 70+ in Ethics.
Yeah, I think the Ethics adjustment comes into play here. A while ago I heard that it has happened only ONCE that someone passed after requesting a retabulation.
Hi Guys:
so I guess we should keep the $100 for the next exam right? or is it worth a try?

You probably spent hundreds of hours studying for the exam so $100 may be a pittance for the peace of mind provided by the retab.
I’ve been on the board for a couple of years and I have never heard of a successful retabulation but, that doesn’t mean that the CFAI doesn’t make mistakes.
I would say it’s worth 100$ if you end up in band 10.
A girl with 82% in mock got band 3 this time . Maybe CFAI does blunders作者: pawn 时间: 2013-8-17 12:34
Thank you vicky_cool400 I am on the same boat. Is the girl appealing? I still believe that there must be a blunder…82% in mock and band 3, thats not possible作者: cv4cfa 时间: 2013-8-17 12:37
Vicky, that just says the CBOK is vast and one 120-question exam cannot cover it all. Perhaps the mock was more to your friend’s taste, but the exam was not. As for me, I scored 56% in the mock, but passed Lvl II.
QuangHoang, even if there is no correlation between mock and the actual exam…when you score high in mock it means that you understand the material and there is no way you end up in a band 3! Yes it can happen but this is not practical at all, there must be a blunder somewhere who knows作者: MarginofSafety 时间: 2013-8-17 12:42
On the flip side, a girl who was Band 2 last year, and worked one CFAI mock two days before the exam, and was freaked out, passed this year. I definitely believe there are a few transposed scores each year.
