The book value of the issued bond is the fair value at inception date, and interest expense is calucated based on this fair value and the market yield at inception date, while the coupon payment is based on the face value and the coupon rate.
whatever the bond is par or discount or premium, they will amortized during its life time and reconcile to the face value at maturity.
