Work Experience Calculation

Trying to figure out when I can apply for my charter. Pasted L3 last year and am affiliated member with work experience starting May 2007.

How does the CFAi calculate the 48 months? Can I apply for membership in April or May 2011?

Thanks.

No downside as far as I can tell. It's what I did: I gathered my sponsors, applied for membership and ended up with less than 48 months, and did not join. Then after enough months passed that I had the 48 I applied for an upgrade (even though I didn't join CFAI as an affiliate, I still had to "upgrade." Nothing happens automatically though, you have to re-apply. You don't have to do anything more with the sponsors or anything, just change the dates on the work experience, re-submit, and wait a few weeks for them to review. It obviously worked because now I'm a charterholder

What is the downside to applying now and getting say 40 months accepted (not sure if that's exactly right, but say it is for the sake of argumnet)?

Can you not then just wait 8 months and your experience will automatically update to 48 months and then you are eligible for the charter?

This is assuming you stay in your current position for the next 8 months.

Thanks.

Another question: switched companies in October 2009. So in my work experience section, I have :

Job A - May 2007 to Oct 2009
Job B - Nov 2010 to present.

Are you saying I only get partial credit for the Oct 2009?

Thanks again.

Here's what happened with me: I left one position in November 2008, started a new one in January 2009. I got 0 credit for Nov. 08, but got one month for Jan 09. In your case I assume you would get 0 months for Oct 09, but 1 month in Nov 09. In this case I would wait until June to apply. Or you can always apply earlier to see what gets accepted.
