MPS: if 1 topic is less than 50% - can i still pass?

Greetings, I have a doubt that I did well on Derivatives. Is it possible for me to pass the exam, if I get totallly 75%+, but I will have Derivatives < 50%. Or if get < 50% at least in one topic - that means fail automatically?
Thanks

Can’t wait to see the curve this year. Also, please submit your results to AF for their analysis

Agreed- do the math.
36 questions wrong gives you a score of 70%
You can get 6 entire vignettes wrong, granted of course you’d need to be flawless with the other 14.

How are people still asking this question? Yes, you can still pass. It doesn’t matter what you got in any one section (except for ethics adjustment which is only if you are borderline near the MPS). It’s a test….if you get the overall passing score or better, you pass. Period.

blackomen,
I’m not sure if that’s true. I, for example, think that I bombed ethics on this exam. However, I’ve actually been getting pretty good scores in practice and mock test. Also, some sections are rather small, like AI, Quant, and Econ. All you need to “fail” that section is get 3 questions wrong. Even if you’re very good at those, you might fail any given section during the actual exam.

Getting less than 50% in a section, even if you passed, probably means you didn’t understand the basics of that section and there was probably some low hanging fruit there you could have pursued for a better use of your time.
Maybe a charterholder could provide a more authoritative opinion but I’ve always felt it’s better to be mediocre in everything rather than be great in a few areas and ignore the others, at least for the exams.
