Becoming a CFA... as cheaply as possible

Hello everyone,

I am starting on the path to become a CFA. Can anyone provide advice on how to get through the entire process while spending as little as possible?

Thanks

1. Apply for a scholarship from member society/CFAI

2. Register before the first deadline

3. Spend countless hours studying from the CFA books alone

4. Pass at the first attempt

5. Keep going over Ethics so you dont fail Ethics components in exams by using CFA as a noun.

Don't worry about the cost, if the CFA charter was a capital budgeting question, you could sink a lot of money into it and still get a positive NPV.

The financial cost/benefit of the CFA program is unreal.

Buy Scheweser notes and Q-bank, go to Windsor Week and make getting it done in a timely manner so you can get a higher paying job sooner more of a priority than saving a couple thousand dollars now.

But ditto on getting the society scholarship, that is easy and just takes a second to fill out the form.

Spend the money. The designation is not worth it for you if you very minimal benefit from attaining it. More than the money, its the time that you have to put into it and that's something you can't monetize.

Thank you all! The Scholarship suggestion is a great one.

As you've been told, you'll recover that money sooner or later if you get the designation, but you have to ask yourself if you are willing to put aside family, friends, hobbies, etc. Just think what is more important for you.
