Q: I have just passed Level I of the CFA program. How should I note this fact on my resume given that I have not enrolled for Level II but plan to do so soon?
A: Standard II A — Use of Professional Designation requires members to reference their membership in a dignified and judicious manner. CFA candidates may reference their participation in the CFA Program, but the reference must be true, clearly state that the individual is a candidate, and cannot imply the achievement of any partial designation. You must continue referencing Level I until you enroll to take the Level II exam. Pages 22 and 23 of the Standards of Practice Handbook (8th edition) provide examples you can use to reference your enrollment in the CFA Program. For example, you may state in your resume “Level I candidate in the CFA Program” or “Participated in Level I CFA Program examination June 2002” or “Took the CFA Level I exam on 1 June 2002.”
