Band 4 - CFA Level 1

First when I finished the exam, I felt comfortable that I would get at least 80 questions right from 120 questions so at least if I fail I will be at Band 9 or 10.

However yesterday I've got the result and I didn't even get Band 9 or 10 but Band 4.
I am really shocked but believe that I didn't deserve to pass since I've got Band 4. One can say that you are not lucky if you get Band 9 or 10 but Band 4 - not so good.

My approach to the Dec exam was to:
- read all the schwesser and do end of chapter questions from the study guide
- do all 6 volume 1 and volume 2 Scwhesser
- do Elan practice mocks 1 and 2
- Read Elan 11th hour 2-3 weeks prior the exam.

Questions I have, If I do all these 4 steps again assuming that I understand the material back to back 100%. Will I pass? or this is simply not enough? for CFA Level 1.

Appreciate your feedback.

Bands make it sound like you did well in the exam..lol like a Band 10 sounds better than Level 1: Pass

Does anyone have any clue...wots the difference between two bands....for eg....how many questions someone scoring in the band 7 has done wrong than someone who is in band 10....

The bands are only for those that failed. They divide everyone who failed into 10 roughly equally proportioned bands, with band 10 being the highest (closest to passing) and band 1 being the lowest scores.

What are bands exactly
I passed the exam but I didn't receive anything about bands. I just received a matrix with some asterikses. My score was over 70% in 8 subjects but in ethics and alternative investments my score was less than 50%. Is that band 8 ?

Thank you

on mock exam I scored only 60% .. maybe this isn't high enough.
How much should I be aiming next time? When I did the exam, I felt that scwesser mock exam are much harder than the actual exam.

I did basically the same thing and I passed with 70%+ in every topic area except alternative investments. I did Schweser videos+notes, CFAI EOC Q's, Elan Mocks and Elan 11th hour. I got 70%+ on every mock, and almost an 80% on the CFAI mock (I scored unusually high).

I did exactly the same thing u plan to do minus all the Elan guides.
And I spent the last 3 weeks just speeding through all the Qbank questions.
Schewser + qbank should be enough for level 1.
I pass with 8 out 10 above 70% and the other two 50 to 70%.

dump scwhesser and go with elan guides. And get the elan question bank. After each learning objective do the questions from elans practice questions that line up with that LO and the questions in the CFA text books. Do the Mock exams like this

-do half a mock exam
-on the sections you have trouble redo the practice questions and CFA end of chapter questions
-do another half of a mock exam
-do more practice/EOC questions on the sections you need to improve on
repeat.

Overall I felt the Elan practice questions and mock exams were very similar to the CFA level 1 exam.

Just thought Id share..

Read through the CFA books once
Studied schweser notes, and added in stuff they were missing
Didnt do any mock exam whatsoever, not even the CFA mock, I just didnt feel like it at the time! but did do some of the elan 2000 questions

Passed in the end, but i just graduated with a finance degree, so their was nothing realy challenging in the material

My advice would be if you are using the prep providers, mix them up, like using the schweser notes and the elan qs or vice versa, that way you will pick up on stuff that one prep provider may have overlooked
