CFA Curriculum only

I just received my books and was browsing the books and felt that the volume is not as bad as i thought it would be. Quant is in 200 pages only.

Im considering studying soley from CFA Curriculum but have the following questons:

1. Does CFA Curriculum drill the knowledge in ur head by reinforcement etc or is it just blabber? for L1 i remember it gave me a headached with how long they went on and on yet left me confused

2. Schweser has many ways to learn in terms of qbank etc, will EOC suffice?

If u have studied and passed soley using CFA curriculum please tell me what u think?

Where have you learned about an Eleventh Hour Guide for L2? Last time I checked, they were just going to offer some videos and notes on specific topics.

I found that schweser mislead me into thinking that i understood the material very well but after reading the CFAI material and comparing the 2, i realized how much concept i missed out on. CFAI texts are very verbose and takes longer time to read than 3rd party study guides but the indepth explanation of the material helps you to commit it to memory far better. Also the many examples in the text helps reinforce the material you've just read.

night-owl is probably correct a mix may be the best approach, but I would hit those EOCs in the official material regardless. I did the schwez video classes and the rest of the package last year. It is helpful to have different sources to explain it in different ways.
Don't be scared of the test though. I was and probably took myself out of the game last June.
Only two outcomes are possible: a) you surprise yourself and pass b) you are that much better prepared to shake it off and try the test again.
The charter won't make you happy, living and enjoying your life in addition to having these types of accomplishments will. Otherwise you'll be on your death bed starring at your lovely piece of wall-hangery and thinking: "Damn".

My friend passed using Schweser video lectures and doing 6 exams.

I am going with the curricullum alone just like I did for Level I. Then I'll get the Eleventh Hour Guide and several mock exams and hope that suffices.

CFAI for the heavily-weighted topics and Ethics and Schweser for the smaller weighted topics.

HOWEVER...

DO NOT skip over the CFAI EOC questions. I have noticed that CFAI will repeatedly ask the same type of EOC questions sequentially for maybe 3-4 questions. These topics will usually show up on exam day. Do every EOC question.

Sungirl/Meazza,

No doubt that CFAI curriculum gives u the best understanding of complex concepts which are only slightly touched upon by Schweser but its very hard to retain the material from the curriculum. I tried it in FSA but it didn't help, so I adopted a mixed approach. I mostly used Schweser and after 2 readings of each LOS I used to get back to curriculum to identify the areas which were left out by Schweser and read them from there. Also, I used Finquiz for practice and it found it very helpful as it helps me reinforce the concepts.

I passed L2 and the key was extensive practice. I solved all examples & EOCs from curriculum and CFAI mock exams together with practice material from Finquiz. And I would suggest you the same: Read Schweser and only after 2 readings go to Curriculum to see if any concept has not been included in Schweser or needs further clarification and read it from there.

DO NOT try to read CFAI only as it will consume so much time and its difficult to recall. However, its my personal opinion and someone might have different point of view. Just remember that ur goal is passing the exam. Good Luck!

It would be better if you can talk with friends who have passed CFA L2 and who know you well. They can advise you which parts to study from CFAI and which from Scheweser.

Your CFA level 1 marks can also act as a guidance. The areas where you scored less than 70 you can refer from CFAI and the areas you score more than 70 you can refer to scheweser.

Consider CFA Level 2 as a war and CFAI Books as powerful but heavy artillery and scheweser as less powerful but light artillery. You can either build your stamina and carry the heavy artillery or you can use your existing stamina and carry a mix of heavy and light artillery. There is an optimisation problem. What most people do is they either try to carry heavy artillery(CFAI) and fail or they carry all the light artillery(Scheweser) and fail to use the artillery properly.

Basically there are no shortcuts here, if you want to pass you will have to study more than 65% of CFA L1 pass people. Don't gets scared and hit the books and keep both schweser and CFA together. Use both as required.
