Band 9 - What went wrong?

Hi,

Can someone with experience please share their thoughts on:
1. What I need to bring up to get a pass?
2. How I should approach the December retake exam?

Here is my results.

I got a band 9.

Your scores tell you which areas you are weak in. However, its very dangerous to assume that you will do as well on the next exam on topic areas that you did well in on the previous test. Focus on your weaknesses but do not assume you will remain strong on the areas you scored well on last time. Review everything thoroughly, take some mock tests and get plenty of practice. Good luck

I would agree that FRA, Quants and Equity need to be pulled up. I cant speak about what you did during the test, but it really helped me to just forget about each question once I answered it and clear my head for the next one. I would also do a lot of practice questions and at least to a mock exam the weekend before the test.

Just what helped me.

Hi bbtomato,
looking at the scores, which are quite well , it seems that you had done very badly on derivative, quants, and eq invt which screwed up the whole results. You can look into exam results of people who passed in this forum and see that, mostly, none of the pass candidates have <50 in any subject( there may be exceptions). So <50 in any of topics, could be bad for overall results.

You were very close though which is y a band 9. Look at it this way, that you are already through with most of material now, and still lot of time in hand, so i think u should concenterate more on solving Qbank, and EOC and nail L1 this time!

anyhow, apart from exam fee ( which is pretty much for sure), u wont loose anything on your time, as you can aim for L1 in dec and L2 in Jun with us!

Hope to see u in L2

Hi bbtomato,

I believe you should focus more on FRA and try to score >70% in that topic. You should also focus more on Quants and Equity Investments and try to score >70% for both the topics. You're so close to passing, so hang in there.

As for your December preparation, perhaps it would help to re-read all the materials one more time (try reading Schweser notes) and practice a lot of questions afterwards. Make sure you do End of Chapter questions (in the CFA textbook) as well. All the best to you bro.
