Retaking in June 2011. Starting this weekend

Do I have company here?

I started essentially right after I found out I failed. I think I waited a week or two.

My strategy.
1) Read CFAI books and go over Scwheser on sections I didn't get >70%
2) Go over Scwheser (only) for sections I achieved >70%
3) Go over material new to 2011, reading CFAI only. (don't feel like getting Scwheser again)
4) Flash Cards for all subjects
5) EOC questions for all subjects
6) Mock Exams
7) Exam

CFAI added quite a bit, especially in equity. If you stick with the outdated ones, make SURE you go over the new LOSs.

I'm using the 2010 Schweser books and also doing CFAI EOC questions. On the chapters that have a lot of new changes for 2011 I will go back and forth between the CFAI and Schweser but for the most part I don't think it will hurt too much going through the 2010 books as long as you can answer all the CFAI EOC questions.

Also reading the CFAI EOC summaries as well

So did you guys who are retaking go buy new books or go with the CFA ones for this time around. I had elan for dec 2010 and i really think i should just spring for the new books instead of using the outdated ones. The CFA ones are way to long, forget that. i guess if i dont ill just have to read the new sections from the CFA but that is kinda a pain.

what you guys doing?

I failed in 08, retook and passed in 10. Started proper studying in late Feb and did fine even though I hadn't touched the material for almost two years.

Try to keep a lot of time for review and mocks. Good luck!

OH BOY. Am i glad i have company. Both the CFA and Elan books have been staring at me from across the room sense the results came out a few months ago. I would really like to start soon. I got band 7 and really just think that it is because i ran out of time and had about a week of rushed review, about a day a book.

-unforseen- you will be fine, just put the hours in. I graduated spring 2010 and it was huge having just went through all the info in school, i was finance major as well.

Guy- The questions are very straight forward. Just review the info. I knew i was probably f-ed walking into the test because i had not been able to give the material i read 3 months before another go through.

Dreampak- just dont dwell on subjects that you dont understand and continue to move through the material. Make note of it and come back when you review. there is lots of time

I started yesterday and this is my first time taking it. I don't work, I have three university courses left (9 hours) and I spend 10 hours a week outside of class studying for these courses. I plan to use CFAI for Ethics, Quants, Economics, and FRA, and Scheweser for the rest. I finish school in a month and I have all of May free to study. Do you guys think its enough time???

Also my major is investment finance.

@Cindrella - you got company here for sure. Got a Band 10 in december and retaking the exam. Starting prep from this weekend..

Would only be reading the Scwheser Notes and would start with Equity at least for this weekend.

@retakers. I'm new to AF and hope you can provide some feedback. Similar to what Guy said, I'm interested in learning about the things that you did the first time and why they did not result in a pass. The reason I ask is b/c I am registered for the exam in June. I've only completed SS 2, 3, 7 and 8. I feel I'm running out of time and would love to hear what you would have done/and are doing differently.
@gulfcfa. I appreciate the 'can get it done' attitude. Any feedback you have for me would be much appreciated. I work in finance and have a decent grasp of equity, FI and portfolio mgmt. I hope to finish SS 9 and 10 by end of next week and the rest is up for grabs!
Thanks everyone.

@cfabuzz - thanks for the goodluck, i badly need it. Think the best approach for me is to read it 3 or 4 times this time. I also struggle with the Monetary and Fiscal policy, esp when they start talking about demand pull inflation, etc and they add all graphs to make the explanation simpler (which makes it the opposite for me)... or maybe i just hate looking at graphs.

Goodluck to you too!
