CFA Level II starting organised studying

Hi all

Gave my test and there is no way i am going to clear it. I know even if i did by fluke, i dont deserve it. Got married in Feb and surely was not able to concentrate on studies.

Now i want to nail it, after seeing the paper i feel i can do it. However even for Level I my study was not organised. Now that i have one year, i want to know few things, if anyone here can help.

1) When will CFA Institute release material for L2 2012 ? By how much the curriculum will be different ? since i dont want to discontinue studying, want to ensure that studying from existing curriculum would be of help.
2) I simply had no time to study so only studied for 3 months from Schweser Notes which i believe backfired, do you guys think studying from Curriculum is the better way? since i want to opt for it now that i have time.
3) i want to to study 2 hrs on weekdays and 5-6 hrs on weekends (saturday and sunday) since i also have an active social life, will intensify post december, will this be enough?
4) How much weigtage would you give to practicing? what should i do? solve CFAI? Schwser EOS Qs.?
5) Which tests are most effective? CFAI / Schweser / Elan (i hope they release 1 for L2)

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

yes, being nice &cheerful won't make u pass this level.

Thank you Mr Moose for helping me to elaborate my understanding of " Burnout". Can't agree more about what you said above.

not necesarily discouraging, but essentially realistic because if you start early, you risk getting burned out, in addition your retention of information you studies 6 months back would be quite low. I suggest starting 4, maximum of 5, months back, using a combination of Schweser 80% and 20% from CFAI for unclear topics. Try to read the schweser curriculum twice. On my first round i didnt solve any questions, i just understood concepts, on the second round i read the notes again and did CFAI EOCs, i completely ignored schweser questions. do ALL the CFAI EOCS multiple times, I personally did them 3 times, and do all the mocks you can get your hands on approximately 1 month before D-day.

During your studies you will definitely be cutting down on your social life, so be prepared for that as well, and especially in that last critical month.

Its a rigorous process, and you definitely need to take breaks between your studies to avoid burnout. Also keep a good exercise schedule to keep your self energized and motivated.

Good Luck

i'd say give or take 1-2% of the material might change - but honestly having seen this material twice now, i can say that using the 2011 materials to prepare in advance is still logical, especially for the bigger, more EOC-heavy sections.
