Is there any way to set up an account with a basket of foreign currencies and then trade products that are denominated in currencies not part of your account basket?

Interesting, thanks. Was that a simply a loan in U.S. against your EUR account and then they charged you interest?

I think you need to ask the broker.

The default is a loan from IB, but you can also exchange into the transacting currency beforehand if you prefer. Once the transaction closes, funds remain in the foreign currency until you exchange back into your base currency.
