gifts from clients

so i beat the benchmark by 1% this year, and a client decides to give me a "world's greatest portfolio manager" coffee mug.

Do i have to disclose minor gifts like this to my employer under standard I(b)? - independence and objectivity?

is it likely to impair your judgement?

TOP

There is so much BS wrapped around this standard...

They make reference to establishing a "minimum acceptable amount", but say it's subject to firm, but then also say it's about impairing judgment, but then also say disclose everything....

I don't know.... if they give me a fkng coke, im disclosing it.

TOP

while it is a beautiful mug, it will not impair my judgement - so only the big things (or when in doubt, disclose) - small things i dont have to disclose.

got it.

TOP

as it's a legal issue, the answer is "it depends"

the mug does not fall into the category above customary items

BUT

the firm may have adopted a code that employees must disclose ALL gifts regardless of value

btw, a coffee mug is the perfect gift for only beating the bench by 1%
