indicates initial mortgage balance still outstanding i.e. 50% = 50% still outstanding. the idea is to get an idea of the securities composition.
check thru your CFA texts on MBS’s and its under the “Trading and settlements procedures” heading, after Types of MBS’s and before Measuring Prepayment Rates/Speeds
