Why is it a kick in the nuts if you are almost sure you failed? If anything it would be a kick in the nuts if you thought you were going to pass and on results day found the opposite. We all take our licks in life, looks like it happened to you and you'll just come back better prepared next year. I guess I compare this to watching your extreme underdog home team playing the game, if you lose then you expected to, and if you somehow win then party time!
