Has anyone heard any rumors about the Republicans pushing the Dems to cut social security in the debt ceiling deal?

Pretty much. The bipartisan debt ceiling analysis essentially walks you through "what if" debt ceiling is not passed by August 2nd int terms of prioritizing payments
