Hi guys,

I am one like you, waiting anxiously for the Monday!

I was thinking if I should take FRM Level 1 in Nov, as the next CFA exam (L2 or L3) is still almost a year away!

How many of are you planning to take FRM in Nov. '10? Do you think its worth it? I dont think it will be difficult after going through the CFA L1 and L2 quant. What you guys say?

I have done CFA L1 June 09, FRM Full Nov 09 (passed, top quartile in most sections), CFA L2 June 10 (hopefully successfully)

Ask me next week, whether it was a good idea or not!!!

How many hours did you put in for FRM?

Only spent 1~2 months on FRM, only took 3 day-off before the exam date and pass the full Nov. 09.

Even though FRM is harder than CFA L2(i still think so), their questions are not that tough as their readings...

Hi Coshair - have you found any difference in job market for u as a result of u having FRM
over and above CFA?

my next interview came with more risk analysis requirements...
FRM is more involved in Quants, so be prepared for SPSS or VBA/SQL questions...

but as CFA is more widely accepted, the requirements may differ significantly based on specific job positions.

to conclude, the certifications can help you to get more interviews, but you still have many things to do to get a good job.

Between 100 and 150 hours, to be honest.

I also felt that the readings were much harder compared to the CFA readings, but the questions are less tricky than the CFA questions (esp. L2 puzzles), albeit more quanty and at times tediously lenghty calcs.

I passed the full FRM last November (top quartile in most subjects - praying for the same for Monday). I used the Schweser notes for the exam. Schweser's FRM notes and especially the questions at the end of the chapters are not as good as their CFA material. Definitely get the Financial Risk Manager Handbook and any practice tests available.

The FRM test is more straight forward but very quantitative. The hardest question on the test was which of following integrals is the objective function of a given integral. The FRM has four possible answers so I had to flip my coin twice to get to an answer.

I checked the BT website but didn't purchase their products.
The handbook is very important since it offers the type of exam questions directly.(many of EOCs are 2006 or older exam questions)

the Schwser notes are not as good as CFA notes, but still helpful.

the most important thing is to master the quants...the "financial markets and products" takes the biggest percentage of the exam, and if you know as much as you can on the quantitative methods (i.e. models, VaR calculation and concepts, etc) you'll surely have a greater chance for a pass.

I'm signed up for it. Though primarily just because I like the idea of getting a better grip on quant (English Major).

I'm using schweser.
作者: bingbingliang    时间: 2011-7-11 18:59

how demanding is the quant compared to CFA L 1 & 2?

FRM is definitely worth taking. The learn material is not that overlapping that of CFA. You learn a lot of things about heding and details over the popular credit models as well. Details of BASEL accord is another highlight.

I did that last year where ppl still only takes one exam instead of two. That time I used more than three months intensively to go through the material. Schweser books are not as good as those for CFA in the sense of preparing for the exams. You can use that for good reference book in your daily jobs however.

The exam in the end turned out to be difficult. As everybody feeled it difficult, pass rate was still not that low.
