What is a realistic chance for a CFA(member with Series 7 and 66 license, AUM of $20M, 5 years of Investment Advising experience) to get into an Equity Research or Portfolio Manager position at a big 5 investment company? BS in Finance and Economics from a top 50 School and MBA from top 20. I don't think there is a fast way around it to get into an Equity Researcher and/or Portfolio Mgmnt, so I'm asking based on my future plans.

Please chip in your thoughts Thanks!

It seems you already have the education, there's not much else you can do except apply.

Equity research will be tougher. Having walked down the investment advising road several years already, you wouldn't be offered any senior analyst position, and will likely take a pay cut. I doubt you'd want that.

port mgmt is more applicable as a transition.
