I can never understand why... am I missing something obvious?

Yea - I found that annoying as well. I am assuming that they did it for future relevancy. I don't think anyone is going to be reusing the current material in the year 2016 though.
It has cost me points in the past when I just breezed past the 20X6 and 20X7 thinking they were the same dates but they weren't. The X's threw me off - I learned my lesson.
