No downside as far as I can tell. It's what I did: I gathered my sponsors, applied for membership and ended up with less than 48 months, and did not join. Then after enough months passed that I had the 48 I applied for an upgrade (even though I didn't join CFAI as an affiliate, I still had to "upgrade." Nothing happens automatically though, you have to re-apply. You don't have to do anything more with the sponsors or anything, just change the dates on the work experience, re-submit, and wait a few weeks for them to review. It obviously worked because now I'm a charterholder  |
