Study Strategy for L1 techniques, concepts, material, received, absorb

I just received the CFAI text books. There is a lost of material to read. I need your advice on what is your strategy to absorb so much material? On exams, does CFAI test you on specifics or major concepts? Also, where I can learn about test taking techniques?
