GIPS performance standards standards

Just finished reading the required, non-optional section on the GIPS standards from the text book. Are samples 1-8 required reading? They're not located in an optional section.

Also, do we need to know the terminology from the GIPS glossary? Much of it is crossover terminology from the core material anyway.
