minor question: Income Taxes exception, equivalent, definition, question, better

I went back to get a better understanding of income taxes, and I have a small question about an exact definition.

Is "income tax paid" equivalent to "tax expense" with the exception of being on the Statement of Cash Flows rather than the Income Statement?
