How to do it differently experience, studying, understood

Hello All,
I took the exam for the 4th time this year, and i failed band 7. I truly do not know what I should do differently, what should I concentrate more on, but what i know is that i have a hard time remembering the exact content of formulas - simple formulas like Herfindahl's or value of an option. Does anyone experience the same? How do you approach studying, do you read and then try to put down what you understood out of that LOS, with no books aside? After failing so many times, I dont know anymore how studying works.
The material does not seem hard to me, I understand it, but when it is about being tested on it, i feel i lack its depths.
