Counting Methods learning, everyone, understand, methods

Hello everyone,

I'm learning counting methods right now, and while I conceptually understand factorials, combinations (nCr), and permutations (nPr), I'm having a hard time understanding the theory/concept behind the "multiplication rule of counting" and "labeling".

If anyone could spare the time to explain it to me, that would be greatly appreciated.
